I just started collecting coins, how good are the US mint display cases?

I just started coin collecting and I have many questions. I was wondering if you could recommend a good book or website so that I could read up on the do's and don'ts of the hobby. And my biggest online pharmacy prescription drugs question right now is this. I have a silver proof set that I just bought from the US Mint. The cases they came in don't seem to be 100% air tight. How well do these cases stand up to the test of time, and is there anything I should do to better preserve them, and still be able to display them? Thank you for your help!
